Amber Owens
Artist Statement
Amber Owens builds in color the way memory builds in fragments—layered, soft-edged, and impossible to hold in one place.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, she creates hand-dyed memory cloth paintings from repurposed cotton fabrics, constructing tactile compositions that move between cloth and canvas. Rooted in 90s Black culture, childhood cartoons, and Southern domestic traditions, her work draws from a visual language shaped by color, resourcefulness, and lived experience. Through dye, texture, and layering, Owens transforms fabric into a site of memory—where nostalgia is not simply recalled, but held, reworked, and made present.
