Artist Statement

My photographic practice is rooted in observation, composition and timing. I work across portraiture, landscape, wildlife and travel photography, looking for moments when familiar subjects become visually unexpected through scale, gesture, atmosphere or juxtaposition.
My background in advertising and graphic design strongly influences the way I make photographs. I tend to think in terms of structure, negative space, visual hierarchy and the relationship between subject and environment. I am drawn to images that are simple at first glance but reveal additional information, tension or narrative with time.
Much of my work explores the relationship between people, animals and the spaces they occupy. Recurring themes include scale, isolation, repetition, concealment and fleeting moments of connection. Whether I am photographing a person, a landscape or an animal in its environment, I try to avoid over-directing the moment and instead recognize what is already there.
My approach to editing is similarly restrained. I use post-production to clarify light, color, texture and emphasis while preserving the credibility of the original scene. The goal is not to create a different reality, but to make the photograph communicate more clearly what drew me to the moment in the first place.
Across different subjects, I am most interested in photographs that work on more than one level: images with an immediate graphic presence that reward a second, closer look.
