Mine Ternar-Kal
Artist Statement
My work begins with moments that feel charged with possibility: light shifting across a surface, reflections on water, branches moving in the wind, a landscape glimpsed from above, or an image that arrives unexpectedly in a dream. I am drawn to experiences that seem ordinary at first, yet open into something less certain—moments when perception deepens and the visible world begins to feel more mysterious.
Lucid dreams, memory, intuition, and observation often meet in my work. I am interested in the places where inner vision and external reality overlap, and in the possibility that what we see is always changing through time, light, emotion, and awareness. Dreams have become one way of listening more closely to that shifting space.
I work with my own photographs through digital collage, image manipulation, and digital painting, and I also use photographic imagery as a source for paintings on canvas. Layering, transparency, reflection, and changing color allow me to move between what is seen and what is sensed.
Underlying the work is an awareness of impermanence: landscapes change, light moves on, memories transform, and the world we think we know is never entirely still. I am interested in those fleeting moments when something becomes briefly clear—when inner and outer experience seem to touch, and perception itself becomes a form of discovery.
