Artist Statement

Scott Smith is an artist and entrepreneur based in Chicago. He is the founder of The Pompous Poster Co., a fine art print studio specializing in archival-quality posters individually printed in-house on a high-precision 12-ink printer.
Scott's work is defined by bold, illustrative line work and made up of unconventional color combinations. His style is built for clarity and presence, suited as much to portraiture as to the kind of iconic, larger-than-life figures who anchor a room. His approach is guided by a belief in depth over spectacle: a preference for subjects and stories that reward a second look, and a slow, deliberate way of building a body of work rather than chasing trends.
Before founding The Pompous Poster Co., Scott worked as an advertising creative director and award-winning filmmaker and has always been someone interested in words and stories as in images. He is finally showing a body of work that he has been building toward for some time.
Scott lives in Chicago, where he continues to write, print, and look for the next person or place worth putting ink to paper for.
