Artist Statement

I’m an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in drawing, acrylic painting, and mixed media to explore the deeply felt relationship between myself, my subjects, and the natural world. Nature is my primary inspiration. Rather than simply replicating a landscape, I seek to interpret the emotional or mental space between what I see as inspiration in the environment and my presence within it. Taking an initial feeling or perception and using variations in tone, color, and shape, I attempt to translate or emphasize the captivating energy.
My work shifts between realism and abstraction, depending on whether I’m capturing interactions with the embodied subject or some critical essence of our shared experience.
Ultimately, my goal is to invite viewers into an active dialogue with the artwork. By emphasizing dramatic contrasts, evocative forms, and vibrant colors, I don't just show the viewer a piece of nature—I share the intimate connection I felt within it. Through these visual stories, my work highlights our profound, inescapable interconnectedness with all living things.
While I have been an artist my entire life, I recently returned to school to expand my technical and conceptual foundation. I’m currently pursuing a degree in Studio Art at Sierra College, where my recent studies in color theory have refined my visual acuity and influenced my approach to representing visual relationships with intention.
