Artist Statement

My admittedly unhealthy connection to acrylic paint allows me to visually explain how I experience the world.
Through figurative paintings centered on Black women, I translate emotional and psychological experiences into physical forms. In each piece, bodies fracture, dissolve, overflow, and reveal impossible anatomy, not for shock, but because metaphor often communicates what language cannot. Each painting asks what emotions such as empathy, obligation, love, identity, or expectation would look like if they physically invaded the body.
My work explores the accumulation of emotional weight carried across generations, relationships, and social expectations. These paintings are not portraits of individual suffering so much as visual archives of pressure that is inherited, absorbed, and lived. They invite viewers to witness experiences that often go unseen while leaving space for their own interpretations.
My work is less interested in providing answers than in creating recognition, that quiet moment when a viewer realizes they have felt something similar, even if they have never had the words for it.
