Angela Di Filippo
Artist Statement
Angela Di Filippo is a visual artist living just north of Seattle, WA. She is also a person who enjoys wearing many hats–such as artist, coach, strategic consultant, and community organizer. All of her interests and roles can seem like separate practices, but they are all founded on flow, connection, and hope through change.
Her paintings - abstracted expressions of nature - embody everything from distant galaxies to trails found by her home with the flow of pigment mixed with water and other mediums, conflicting and connecting with other mixed-media elements (or even, sometimes, the surface itself) and natural forces, like gravity. This helps the pieces develop in the space between intentional action and chaos, and honors the balance and movement between the natural inspiration behind the work and the stories people tell themselves about the shapes they reveal to themselves through observing the piece.
As an artist, Angela believes art should be accessible; any surface can be used for art, any object can be added to it, and any work can be appreciated at different angles. By not limiting her paintings to just canvas or a single perspective, and by intentionally using recyclable items to minimize the waste created by her work, she is able to invite every viewer in to experience her works with more than just their vision.
Though she has not been publicly active for over a decade due to other life forces, Angela has continuously painted and explored the internal and external landscapes available to her. She is currently emerging as a public visual artist and is looking forward to sharing her work to inspire others in their journeys, both in appreciating our natural world and in understanding themselves.
