Artist Statement

My paintings draw from the visual language of 17th-century Dutch floral still life while remaining rooted in direct observation and the rhythms of the garden. Working primarily from flowers I cultivate myself, I construct arrangements that explore luminosity, transience, and the tension between abundance and decay.

Light plays a central role in the work. Emerging from dark grounds, flowers become suspended between presence and disappearance, rendered through layered oil techniques influenced by historical painting methods. I am particularly interested in how restraint, atmosphere, and controlled color can heighten emotional intensity within seemingly quiet subjects.

Although informed by historical still life traditions, these paintings are not intended as reconstruction of the past. Instead, they seek to create contemporary spaces of contemplation through floral forms that feel both intimate and theatrical, cultivated and untamed.
