Artist Statement

Lilian Engel is a sculptor who creates expressive, biomorphic forms from natural materials. Inspired by nature and the human figure, her work explores abstraction through fluid movement, balance, and the inherent energy of each material.
After years of carving stone and wood with power tools and refining each piece by hand, Engel's practice has evolved toward a stronger ecological focus through the of reclaimed materials. Employing saws, sanders, hardware, and adhesives, she transforms salvaged wood into organic sculptural forms that honor the material's history while reflecting the relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Balancing deliberate design with intuitive discovery, Engel allows each sculpture to emerge through an ongoing dialogue with the material, revealing forms transformation, and renewal.
