Artist Statement

I am deeply committed to exploring the boundaries of vivid abstract expression, my work seeks to captivate and engage the eye. My inspiration stems from an enduring fascination with both the seen and the unseen. Nature, sunsets, and even the carpet on a casino floor can serve as vital sources of inspiration for my work. What draws me is the interplay of light, color, and texture, and how these elements can transform the mundane into the extraordinary. Each scene I choose to depict holds a Katherine an African American Artist was born in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, and grew up on its culturally rich Southside, surrounded by a loving family that would unknowingly set the stage for her artistic journey. Her childhood was a tapestry of familial warmth, bustling neighborhoods, and the colorful stimuli that would later fuel her creativity. It was at the tender age of 12 that Katherine's path as an artist began to carve itself out. An innocent admission to an after-school volunteer about her love for drawing led to her enrollment in the Hyde Park Summer Art Program, marking the first step in what would become a lifelong devotion to art. With children and distant relatives who share her artistic inclinations, Katherine's creative talent seems to run in her family, affirming her artistic lineage.
