Artist Statement

As a psychotherapist of nearly 20 years, my creative work tends to explore existential themes - embodiment, memory, ritual, and transformation - through mixed media. I’m drawn to images, colors, and materials that feel emotionally charged and a little lived in. Across my practice, I return to themes of fragility, endurance, connection, and the ways ordinary moments can take on unexpected emotional or spiritual weight.

I usually work intuitively, building a piece layer by layer and responding to what begins to emerge. Mixed media gives me room to create surfaces that feel textured, imperfect, physical, and alive. I’m interested in the relationship between structure and atmosphere, and in making work that feels both intimate and slightly mythic. Color is central to that process; I often use saturated, jewel-toned palettes to heighten feeling and create a sense of reverence, unease, tenderness, or wonder.

My imagery moves between figuration, symbolism, landscape, and abstraction. I’m drawn to recurring subjects like mortality, care, memory, the body, and our complex relationship with both the natural and digital worlds. I’m interested in the strange beauty that can emerge when grief, humor, desire, and tenderness are allowed to exist in the same space.

A quiet existential sensibility runs through much of my work. I think a lot about impermanence, vulnerability, and what remains when certainty or performance falls away. At the same time, I’m equally interested in pleasure, color, and the small rituals that make life meaningful. I’m not trying to illustrate a fixed narrative so much as create a space where something can be felt, recognized, or contemplated.

Ultimately, I make art to explore the unstable boundary between the individual/everyday and the collective/sacred. Through layered mixed media surfaces, symbolic imagery, and emotionally charged color, I hope to create work that feels contemplative and alive.
