Dominic Scardino

Artist Statement

I am Dominic Scardino a painter living in Westchester County, New York. My work is a mix of oils and acrylics, starting in the early 1980s till 1991 and now rebirthed in 2024. It was during college in the 80s where my talent & creativity was recognized, both by myself and my teachers.
I am inspired by nature, natural landscapes, personal experiences and pure imagination. In my earlier works, I explored many scientific themes and fantasy landscapes with a contrast surrealistic feel. My talent was inherited from my father, a first generation Italian American who passed away at an early age. As a young kid I watched him paint landscapes and the imprint of these experiences also inspires me to continue his legacy.
My early creative process involved starting from a blank canvas. Deep thoughts made hours feel like minutes, creating my own fantasy world based on aspects of realism and surrealism. Art, for me, is a way to express myself and to leave a part of myself for future generations. I invite viewers to look beyond the surface and understand where the subject matter takes them. Viewers should question their perceptions; feel a sense of connection and appreciation as they venture into the painting.
My 2024 rebirth works begin with subject matter inspired from photos of my journeys. Adding my own creative artistic privileges, moments in time are born and then transformed into “Time In a Moment Observed’-“Ti Amo”.
In the end, I leave a piece of my soul behind to be seen for future generations to wonder and enjoy a man that once was…
