margo laurence

Artist Statement

Margo Laurence, as of recent uses cyanotype as both process and metaphor, letting the blue stain the work with longing, doubt, and quiet grief. The mixed media additions of overprinting, and layering incongrous images create an existance in a world of gender confusion and sexual ambiguity. Bodies appear fragmented or obscured, not to conceal, but to suggest the burden of being seen incorrectly or not at all. Sadness runs through the work not as spectacle, but as a low annoying tone. These images function less as statements but more like questions.
