Aya Krisht
Artist Statement
My practice is focused on anti-colonial cultural production through printmaking and book arts work that centers suppressed narratives and histories of my homeland. My current body of work explores community, grief, and resistance in South Lebanon, particularly in the face of ongoing occupation, devastation, and destruction by colonial forces. The work becomes a space for meditation, processing grief, and commemoration of my home and people. It staunchly foregrounds our community’s overlooked histories and realities in the face of extreme obfuscation and marginalization. It also examines my relation to these realities from a place of diaspora. This is a developing body of work, continually exploring form while responding to a shifting political landscape.
