Artist Statement

Most of my wood is sourced from my farm and home state of Pennsylvania. The trees are sustainably harvested and often times comes from a locally fallen tree from our seasonal storms. I use my Lathe and carving techniques, each and every piece takes a life of its own as it is shaped and formed according to the grain, color, and figure of the wood. My wood creations are not offered on line for sale. I prefer the buyer see the item first hand, pick them up and fondle them. When their smile appears, it tells me they have found the correct one. Since my retirement, I find the transition from dentistry to wood turning to be a natural one. Wood turning is an extension of similar skills I have practiced as a dentist for the last 40 years. The beauty and balance of someone’s smile was the focus in my dental office and it is my hope that my turnings of “rescued” wood will also invoke a beautiful warm smile from an admirer of my work. Thousands of hours in experience goes into each and every piece made to make the best use of wood and bring its natural beauty front and center for all to see.

However, wood working is much easier than dentistry… there isn’t a tongue and saliva to contend with ;-)
