Artist's statement

I always have a reflective experience when I see the interconnectedness of generations in nature. The most beautiful sturdy tree humbly stretches, twists, and reaches both above ground and underground for its sustenance while offshoots grow new trees. Often unnoticed, decay from the tree provides food and fuel to the life around it, as in the Monotropa Uniflora. This is a non-photosynthesizing plant feeds from the decay on the forest floor. These marvelous kindred elements become more mysterious when rays of light are cast upon them. These examples are profoundly relatable to our human experience.
