Artist Statement

My work examines displacement as both a historical condition and a bodily experience. Drawing from the history of Gottschee and my own ancestry, I explore how forced movement, erasure, and survival are carried by the body across generations. Figures in my work often appear fragmented, compressed, or suspended—reflecting the instability of inherited memory and the quiet persistence of loss.
The body becomes an archive: a site where cultural absence, trauma, and longing surface through posture, weight, and gesture. Rather than illustrating specific events, I focus on what remains—traces of place without geography, and identities shaped by what has been taken or left behind. Through my work, I seek to give form to displacement not as a distant past, but as something continually embodied and unresolved.
