Artist Statement

My observational oil paintings and collages are about light and how it reveals and conceals forms in space. My subject matter is my home or a place I know very well. I am especially attracted to the relationship between exterior and interior spaces; the weather; the seasons; the time of day; and the shapes of objects. I rarely rearrange; I paint things as they are. The painting is my response to the subject as it appears over a short span of time. I try to be true to the special something that inspired me in the first place. I hope the emotion, visual delight, or sense of place or space I discovered while looking is conveyed in the painting and felt by the viewer.
