Artist Statement

I primarily use the cold process saponification* method to create all natural soap. In the cold process, soap is made naturally and without using any additional heat to hasten the chemical process.

Using a wide range of plant based ingredients for my base, I balance different ratios of oils that allow me to control the feel, hardness, and even lather of my recipes. I achieve a palette of colors and fragrance while using only all natural ingredients. Some techniques used to make the bars themselves include swirls, pencil lines, stacking/layering, and joining - a process of molding 2 batches of soap together to make a whole, or a combination of techniques.

In making I use several molds of different shapes and sizes ranging from 1lbs - 9lbs, and very technical tools like spoons, forks, and spatulas to design the tops of the bars.

*saponification occurs when fatty oils are combined with a strong base like sodium hydroxide.
