Artist Statement

I create nature-based acrylic paintings with UV-reactive layers that reveal a second experience beneath the surface. Working primarily from my own photographs and observations, I explore transformation, perception, and the interconnected relationships between people and the natural world. My subjects—pollinators, fungi, amphibians, reptiles, and native flora—serve as both portraits of ecological beauty and metaphors for resilience, memory, and change.

Through meticulous color matching, each painting exists in two states. Under natural light, the work presents detailed realism rooted in close observation. Under ultraviolet light, hidden layers emerge, altering the mood and inviting viewers to reconsider what they thought they knew. This duality reflects my interest in the unseen—how experiences, emotions, and identities often contain dimensions that are not immediately visible.

Many of my works are inspired by ordinary moments that carry extraordinary meaning: quiet encounters with wildlife, family experiences, environmental stewardship, and the process of finding wonder through curiosity. Public art projects and community exhibitions have further shaped my practice, reinforcing my belief that art can foster both connection and conversation.

My work exists at the intersection of realism, environmental storytelling, and immersive experience. By combining traditional acrylic techniques with contemporary UV-reactive media, I seek to create paintings that reward prolonged looking and encourage viewers to discover that transformation is not always dramatic; sometimes it is revealed gradually, through a shift in perspective and light.

Through these layered works, I invite viewers to slow down, engage with the overlooked, and recognize that nature—and ourselves—often contain hidden brilliance waiting to be illuminated.
