Wendy Heagney-Bakewell

Artist Statement

Wendy Heagney-Bakewell is a Canadian artist, who paints in acrylic and water-soluble oil on canvas and draws digitally in Procreate. She holds an Honours BFA from the University of Toronto at Mississauga & Sheridan College’s Art & Art History program and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Victoria, British Columbia.
Through her paintings she is interested in storytelling, capturing moments, memories and meaning through objects, symbolism, and connections to nature. Her work is inspired by the beauty of nature and its ability to constantly transform and evolve. Butterflies are a recurring motif in her paintings, symbolizing the growth we experience in our own journeys.
