Artist Statement

My recent work explores the intersection of memory, cultural identity. I use expressive brushwork and layered textures to create spaces where the figure and the environment dissolve into one another, rather than existing as separate subjects.
[Resilience]depict a First Nations female dancer at a Powwow Festival.
The background is an abstract forest. The detailed characterization of characters contrast with the rough texture of the background. Amidst this almost oppressive atmosphere, she remains full of heart and strong will. Through the dynamics of the fabric and the stillness of the figure, I seek to express an inner resilience—even in a lost forest, the roots of culture sustain her.

Snow Mountain, the physical and emotional weight of the figures is central. A father of Tibet carrying a child in care, resilience. The two faces—one weathered, one young—anchor the abstraction, turning the canvas into a space of both vulnerability and strength.
