Kaelin Csordas
Artist Statement
My work consists of realistic, direct watercolor paintings that capture scenes from my everyday life. Through abundant color and clarity, I aim to preserve fleeting moments and highlight the beauty found in ordinary experiences. I am drawn to the simplicity of these moments because they reflect my life while allowing viewers to connect with my work through their own experiences and relationships.
My artistic process begins with selecting a photograph that captures a meaningful moment. I then sketch the image in pencil, outline it in pen, and gradually build the composition with watercolor. I begin with lighter colors, layering darker tones to develop depth and detail. Because watercolor allows for limited correction, I approach each brushstroke with intention and confidence. Using only pencil, pen, and watercolor, I strive to create images that feel immediate, honest, and true to the moments they represent.
The motivation behind my work is the belief that we often take our lives and opportunities for granted. Everyday responsibilities can begin to feel like chores rather than gifts, and we become consumed by the expectations and goals we set for ourselves. Through my paintings, I seek to redirect attention toward the simple experiences that give life meaning, particularly the relationships we build and the people we love. I want to emphasize what deserves to be cherished and remembered rather than allowing arguments, resentment, or fleeting moments of negativity to define our experiences.
I find inspiration in the moments we overlook and the possibilities hidden within ordinary situations. Every individual carries their own dreams, hopes, and experiences, and I am fascinated by how much we can learn from one another. My work reflects the idea that even the smallest interactions can shape our lives in meaningful ways.
Ultimately, I want viewers to leave my work with a renewed appreciation for life and the relationships that surround them. We experience countless moments in a single day, yet so many pass unnoticed as our attention is drawn elsewhere. I hope my paintings encourage viewers to slow down, look more closely at their surroundings, and recognize the value of the time they have with others. Through capturing these seemingly ordinary moments, I aim to remind people that life itself is a gift, and that the experiences we often overlook may become the ones we remember most.
