Artist Statement

“Dinner At Motos” captures the visceral, chaotic energy of a shared meal and the vibrant traditions of gathering around food. Three figures crowd into an intimate space, bound together by the physical artifacts of hospitality: a shared bottle, brimming wine glasses, and a handwritten receipt or note resting on the table. The overlapping, fractured composition and bold, pulsating patterns reflect the multisensory experience of a truly "crowded table," where conversations overlap, laughter echoes, and individual boundaries soften into a collective experience.
The work explores the sensory and emotional dynamics inherent in communal gathering. The figures are stylistically interwoven and distorted, mirroring how shared meals merge personal identities, histories, and moods. While the glasses and bottle act as primary tools for facilitation—bringing people together in a ritual of shared drink and nourishment—the expressive faces range from exuberant joy to quiet contemplation.
Through vivid color relationships and intricate, woven textures, the painting captures the lively friction, intimacy, and warmth that occur when people assemble. It honors the table not just as a physical surface for food and drink, but as a dynamic arena where community is actively cultivated, tested, and sustained.
