Artist Statement

Nothing is as it seems on first appearance. My work is a metaphor for the authenticity of nature. Nature is not neat. It is tangled,layered, dark, dense and mysterious. I build constructions made up of what people rake and throw away, nature's dead, torn, dried, and wind blown debris. My collages are created from my constructions. The possibilities are unlimited. I cut tear and layer paper on wood or canvas as I try to capture the gesture and awkwardness of nature's debris.
