Artist Statement

Oil paint is my favorite medium. The oozing, buttery texture and the paints' ability to interact, creating unexpected marks and colors, makes them irresistible. I even sketch with oils, feeling free in the imprecision of gesture. Oil paint demands curiosity from the artist since it has such a big personality.

In my creative process, I am seeking something that is yearning to be seen. I turn into the subject and the paint is the guide. Large brushstrokes begin the momentum. There’s a looseness in the approach that allows for unexpected marks and colors to appear.

A light wants to shine. Colors want to be praised. An atmosphere wants to be felt.

It is an irresistible puzzle. A code that needs to be cracked.
