Artist Statement

Lindsay-Ann’s medium is the discarded, the unwanted, and the forgotten. Her practice explores the boundaries of discarded matter, while opposing expendability, to help mitigate landfill intake and harmful greenhouse gases in Southern Ontario, Canada. By repurposing waste into upcycled sculpture, she strives to confront contemporary public discourse while challenging traditional art mediums. Lindsay-Ann specializes in pop surrealism, and her work is often influenced by the themes of consumerism, popular culture, technology, and anxiety.


Waste is frequently avoided by modern society. It is Lindsay-Ann’s ideology to embrace the grotesque, by confronting the waste crisis in highly engaged settings, such as galleries, to promote sustainable innovation and social accountability. By elevating waste into fine art, she persuades audiences to view discarded materials with positivity, and to view them as an endless resource, with boundless, creative possibilities. Through innovation, artists can mitigate climate change and articulate a sustainable and socially responsible future.


Lindsay-Ann is currently challenging Southern Ontario’s food waste crisis, by combining detritus and telecommunication cables, through the themes of consumerism, popular culture, technology, and possibility. Her upcycled food sculptures envision a futuristic, dystopian society, where advanced technology converts waste into nutrients. What if detritus continues to accumulate, and food waste increasingly depletes natural resources? Her uncanny sculptures imagine the result of society’s advancing expendable habits. She utilizes reclaimed waste and telecommunication cables that are retrieved from landfills in the Niagara region, and litter that is found in popular tourist destinations in Niagara Falls, Canada. While aiming to capture the adult gaze through uncanny nostalgia, her objective is to provoke audiences into self-reflection, to help reduce prodigal habits and continued food waste.
