Artist Statement

My aesthetic and ambition to paint and draw emerges from the visible world. I paint what I see in outdoor and indoor environments.
I strive to not force a subject but rather paint what comes to me. In that mindset, I remain open to alternating between people, places, or objects or combinations of all. I have developed an attitude of openness to what is speaking to me and to what is pulling me. At times, I am obsessed with faces, and that has led to a series of portraits. The same obsession can happen with landscape, or still life. I never know what will hit me and pull me into it. I become connected to the subject, and I communicate with it via color, form and even the way I apply the paint. It is a thrill and the experience while arduous is filled with intense pleasure.
