Artist Statement
When I first picked up a camera, I was interested in capturing images of the world around me. In this way I consider myself a landscape photographer, but instead of grand settings I focus on more personal scenes such as an old barn or a familiar row of trees.
Much of my current work looks at the farmland and natural landscapes around my home in Yolo County, California. To strip away adornment and distractions, I often work in Black and White. I feel this creates a more raw and engaging experience between the subject and viewer.
I am also working on a project that uses a computer scanner to create detailed images of natural objects such as flowers, plants and fruit. I select and arrange items that are of interest to me, often found in my yard or on local walks.
My goal is to create images that are both simple and familiar, but also enter in a dialog with the viewer. Images that bring up questions and feelings beyond the obvious.
