Artist Statement
Art has always been my first language — spoken through movement, through the rhythms of motherhood, through the layering of image and material. As an artist, a dancer, and a mother, creation is how I move through the world. Mixed media collage is the voice I return to — a voice shaped by the quiet, human need to be seen, to be heard.
My work is rooted in personal experience, but experience itself is fluid — shaped by memory, culture, and perception. I explore the tension between the individual and the collective, weaving through themes of migration, dreams, youth bound by tradition, travel, and identity. Art becomes my magnifying glass, revealing the overlooked — the subtle, glimmering details that hold a world within them. In each piece, I try to draw attention to those fragments of life that too often go unnoticed — delicate threads in the larger tapestry of our lives.
I was raised in a compact home, a daughter in a culture that placed sons first. That early silence, that invisibility, became the undercurrent of my work. It’s what drives me to challenge the boundaries of art and to speak for what is hidden or unheard. I create not only to express but also to connect—to offer a space where others might find a reflection of their own stories.
Ultimately, my art is an act of recognition — a reaching out. I make in the hope that someone, somewhere, might feel a little more seen, a little more heard, and most dearly of all, a little more understood.
