Artist Statement
Aerial photography allows me to see the world from a vantage point that feels both distant and deeply
intimate. From above, landscapes lose their sense of scale and function, transforming into abstract
compositions of line, curve, and texture. Roads, rivers, fields, and cities flatten into patterns that echo drawing,
printmaking, or even calligraphy marks inscribed on the earth’s surface.
Working in black and white intensifies this transformation. By stripping away color, I focus attention on
contrast and structure, allowing hidden rhythms to emerge: the sweep of a river-bend, the fracture of a road,
the interplay between natural and constructed patterns. From this perspective, the ordinary becomes
unfamiliar, the familiar becomes peculiar.
