Artist Statement

Amanda Rebelo: Capturing Human Connections in Art and Dance.

As a photographer, I am continually fascinated by the power of art and its ability to help people connect with themselves and others. That's why through my camera lens, I try to capture that universal moment that ultimately brings people together, cutting across differences to find a common bond. In fact, human connection is a theme at the heart of all my work, tying the pieces together into a vibrant tapestry of emotions.

Dance is also an important theme I explore regularly. My latest series is focused on the language of dance and the role setting plays in conveying a story. While dance can be a very solitary art form, it also evokes a strong layer of emotion that invites others to share the experience. These latest photographs also explore the symbolism of clothing, pose against incredible backdrops, and look at how they can magnify the impact. My goal is to transport viewers into the story, allowing them to experience the moment's raw beauty first-hand and feel at one with the dancer. I also hope to build on this series in future exhibits, exploring cultural differences and diversity within this framework.
