Artist Statement

I paint what I know and love, marrying past and present into my visual stories that invite the viewer to visit a time or place to which they can connect. I'm inspired by the rich culture of New Orleans and Louisiana, my deep Southern roots, and my imagination. My work is born in a place of sentimentality and is portrayed using symbolism and often magical realism. I'm inspired to paint what I feel rather than the reality I see, but in a way that it can speak to any viewer in the way they wish to perceive it. I paint exclusively in the studio from my vast collection of photographs and research of subject matter.
