Artist Statement

My work explores the shifting boundary between the human body and the natural world through figurative painting. Figures appear in states of transition, where identity is not fixed but porous — emerging from and dissolving into their surroundings.

These are not literal portraits of individual women, but images of threshold states where the self is in flux: faces fragment, surfaces rupture, and distinctions between interior and exterior begin to soften. The work focuses on perception as much as transformation, holding the figure in a space where it is both forming and disintegrating at once.

Material process is integral to this language. Layers of oil and cold wax are built and disrupted across hybrid surfaces, allowing texture, fracture, and erosion to shape the image. The physical structure of the work mirrors its shifting sense of self.
