Artist Statement

Before I begin a painting, I already have an idea in my head about my intention. That idea may be inspired by one of my travel adventures or just an initial
idea. Since color is my primary passion, I will select a color palette based on the intention and the colors I am in love with that day. Starting with the first application of color, I love to let the painting take me where it
wants to go. I construct and deconstruct in layer upon layer. When I think the painting is complete, I leave it on the easel until the next day, when I will undoubtedly see adjustments, subtractions or additions that need to be made. I will study the
piece and ask myself a series of questions about design and composition because the elements of a good painting are just as important, if not more so, in abstract work! Does the work convey the intention I had in mind? Does it convey the emotion I felt when I imagined the idea? Are there any areas that need “something”? Depending upon my response to these questions, I will then make further adjustments or declare it complete and sign it. My paintings are my expression of the beauty that color brings to arrangements of shapes, line, values and textures in objective and non-objective compositions. I am so grateful that I have color in my life. I am so grateful that the world is in technicolor.
