The juror will be asked to select work (both two and three dimensional) that reflects and expresses the theme of 'contemporary still life' while demonstrating creativity, strength of execution, and overall artistic excellence with the goal of selecting a well-rounded exhibit that showcases a broad range of artistic style and interpretation.
All artists using visual media are eligible to enter the Object Seen exhibition. All media will be considered with the exception of live or performance art. All work must have been completed since January of 2017 and not previously shown in any other Art Center of the Bluegrass exhibitions. All works must be for sale.
ABOUT THE JUROR:
Sheldon Tapley is a painter, draftsman and teacher. His art came to national attention at Tatistcheff Gallery in New York City and can be found in public and private collections across the country. It has been reviewed in The New Yorker and published in major articles in American Artist, and The Artist's Magazine.
'Tapley masterfully blends the discipline of a hard-earned classical technique with a vision that is thoroughly modern and personal,' wrote Bill Creevy in American Artist. The artist's pastel, Jury Rig, was on the cover of the magazine. Kentucky Educational Television has featured the artist in the documentary series Looking at Painting and a recent episode of Kentucky Life.
Museum solo exhibitions of Tapleys art have been presented by The Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento, and The Evansville Museum. His paintings and drawings have been shown in public institutions across the country, including The Naples Museum of Art, The Arkansas Arts Center, University of Kentucky Art Museum, The Southern Ohio Museum, Manifest Gallery, and Grinnell College, his alma mater.Tapley is an exhibiting member of Zeuxis, a select association of still life painters that presents touring shows for museums and universities.
Tapley is the Stodghill Professor of Art at Centre College, where he has taught throughout his career.

Selected works will be on display at the Community Arts Center Wednesday, Sept. 15 - Oct. 30. An opening reception for exhibiting artists will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 5:30-7:00 p.m. (format to be determined by CDC guidelines). We hope you'll join us!
