Autumn Lights Festival

We encourage you to visit the Gardens, if possible, prior to making an application to see the possibilities that exist. On August 7 at 5:45PM, you are invited to meet City and Event staff at the main entrance off of Belleview Ave. to walk through the available sites. There are several water features, (ponds, waterfalls, basins), a palm garden, sensory garden, Mediterranean garden, Japanese garden, bonsai garden, edible garden, pollinator garden, rose garden, redwood trees, and much more. Not all are sites are available as artists from last year have already staked a claim to some of them, but the possibilities are endless. Some sites have electricity, some do not. If you must use a generator, it must be very quiet in order to maintain the enchanting quality of this event.
Since the Gardens are open to the public except for the duration of the event and all day Saturday, installation is done on Friday during the daytime. If your installation is high up and out of reach, it may be possible to install it during the week prior to the event. You are responsible for the installation although we do have staff and equipment to help with difficult installations. You are responsible for removing the installation immediately after the event if it is on the ground or low hanging, or on Sunday after the event. We assume no responsibility for your installation. You must be present during both event evenings.
ARTIST BENEFITS
There are no payments to artists. However, the following benefits have been created for you:

Mayor's Trophy; Chosen by the Mayor of Oakland.

People's Choice Awards; Decided through voting on Facebook. Cash prizes will be awarded based on the amount collected from all jury entry fees.
1st Place 50% of fees
2nd Place 30% of fees
3rd Place 20% of fees

Museum Store; You may place items (amount TBD) for sale in an indoor venue during the event which will be staffed by event personnel. You will receive 80% of any sales made from your items.
TO ENTER INCLUDE:
A $25 jury fee per proposal via Paypal that will be used for the People’s Choice Awards. You may submit a group project as one proposal and you may submit up to 3 proposals @ $25 each;
• Three images of previous work;
• A short, one-paragraph proposal in writing with drawings or images if possible that:
- Adheres to the Call Description above
- Illuminates the Gardens
- Incorporates an element of the Garden (tree, sculpture, water feature, etc.)
- Does not injure the environment, plants or wildlife
o No loud noises, booms
o No smoke
- Can survive the elements overnight (dampness)
- Lists your illumination techniques
o Electricity, batteries, LEDs, etc.
- Lists your technical needs.
